The last week of summer Chan's parents invited us to go camping! They bought a new trailer this year and wanted to share in the joy of the outdoors! We were VERY excited! What a great way to end the summer!
We got a beautiful spot up Big Cottonwood Canyon in the Spruces camp site. It's an area we've gone to many times in the past, but usually only for a day trip! The kids were super excited about spending some real time up there!
Chan and I decided we were going to make it authentic and we slept in our tent! The kids got to sleep inside the camper with their grandparents! :) I LOVED it! I loved sleeping out in nature and hearing the rushing water from the stream just a few yards away! It was wonderful and the weather was PERFECT! (However I have to admit we DID use a blow up mattress after the first night! That ground was HARD!)
We spent a lot of time playing games! This one had us laughing pretty hard! It was always a favorite when we were boating too!
Tom and Kathy knew how crazy busy we were so they planned all the meals and they were SOOO GOOD! They even made a dutch oven cake one night! YUM!!
One of the nights we made smores- which is a camping MUST! The kids really loved being up there with just us and their grandparents! We had some fun conversations and laughed a lot!
On Sunday we went on a short hike while Chan went back down the canyon. He had some church business that couldn't wait :( But thankfully he wasn't too long! We enjoyed the hike too and got some fun pictures- like this one above!
But by far the favorite thing on this trip was playing Tripoly! This game has been a staple in Chan's family! We've played it MANY times boating- in fact all those pennies were on their boat and have been for YEARS! We just re-use them over and over to play! The adults were usually the ones to play this so the kids enjoyed learning how and loved it! Carter also taught all of us how to play GOLF using cards- that was cool too!
Tom & Kathy took this shot of us right before we left for home. I hope we get to do this again soon! It was wonderful to "unplug" and spend some time in our gorgeous surroundings! We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful place! And even MORE blessed to have been invited on such a great trip! Family bonding time.... CHECK!! :)
