Homecoming!!

Homecoming week in high school is so fun! I had forgotten how much goes on the entire week! One of the events is a tug of war with the different classes going against each other. It was supposed to happen during a pep rally at school (where this picture was taken) but it ended up taking place after the powder puff game on Thursday night. All these boys pictured are football players and all are Juniors this year. They were VERY ready to win it for their class and they DID!!!! They beat all the classes and the faculty!! The junior class went CRAZY!! Carter was also asked to be one of the coaches for the powder puff game and he really enjoyed that! But that game ended in a tie :/

On Saturday they started out their day date going to Boondocks for some miniature golf, go carts and games. They had a lot of fun there!

Then it was time to get ready for the big dance! We allowed Carter to drive our big truck so that he and his friend Trevor and his date could all go together.
I loved seeing the boys open the doors for their dates! Looks like we've taught them right! :)
These are such great kids! They went out to dinner at a great Asian place and went to the dance afterward. Then after the dance they changed and jumped in the truck again and headed out to a haunted house!
It was quite a long date! But he said it was the best dance he's been to! I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the fact that he and Maddy are good friends!
And I have to say that they looked so cute together! Glad he had fun too!

Alta Balck vs West Jordan

On Saturday Morning all of us except Carter loaded up and headed to Will's game. Carter was resting up before heading out for his day date for Homecoming.
Will's team was playing their best game too! They came out with guns blazing and was making West Jordan look like they were standing still!
West Jordan ended up only scoring 1 touchdown and we kept them from getting their extra point. We ended up with a big win on 38 to 6!
Will got to play as center and nose guard during this game. He had one bad snap :( but other than that played a great game!

This team has some really talented players! Every game is really fun to watch!
Brianne's cheer team has been practicing a dance and they finally got to perform it on Saturday :)
They all did such a great job! Especially considering they hadn't got to practice it very much!
Aren't they adorable! GOOOO HAWKS!!

Alta High vs Brighton JV/Varsity

This was an exciting week for football because it was Homecoming week! And we were playing Brighton which was ranked in the top four as well! Going into the JV game we really had no idea what to expect.

These pictures do the explaining for me! Look at #60's face in the above picture! Our guys didn't come out super strong but by the end of the 2nd quarter got into a pretty amazing rythm and were pounding these guys!
These next four pictures go together. Carter pulling...
 Finding his guy...
 Hitting him....
And him falling on his face! That is what you call a "pancake block" and Carter had about 3 of those in this game! He had his best game all season!! It was awesome to watch! And an incredible win! :)

Unfortunately, right before the big Varsity game during warm ups Carter pulled a muscle in his right Quad :( He will be out all next week, but since there's no JV game he'll have time to rest up! But the Homecoming game was AWESOME!! And they came out with the win! Yay!

Cat Cora's Kitchen is open!

First, I have to apologize for the fuzzy pictures! I only had my phone with me to take them and some are not the greatest! But this was a big day for us! On Monday we went out to the airport for the opening party for Cat Cora's kitchen! We were so excited for the opening and especially to meet Cat herself! This picture above is when she was introducing herself and speaking to all who were invited.
She is truly amazing! She travels the country doing TV shows, manages her other restaurants, is furthering her brand and has a family! I was so impressed with her and I knew that I would be! I was thrilled to be able to get a signed cookbook of hers as well. And her food.... well it was amazing!!! They had samples of the menu items going around and I tried lamb meatballs, crab sliders, chicken skewers, a bite sized caprese salad and some amazing watermelon gazpacho. It was ALL to die for! Especially the dessert I tried it was a chocolate cake that is made to order- if you come here you HAVE to try it!!!
The best part of all this? You all can go there the next time you come through Salt Lake City! It's located in the lower part of B concourse and they have an amazing menu! The breakfast menu looked amazing too! So far there are only three of these in airports in our country: ours, Houston and in San Francisco.
I am so proud of Chan and the amazing work he has done here! It's a beautiful restaurant and I can't wait to see how it does! Come and visit it if you can!

Little Chloe arrives!

I just had to do a quick post about my newest niece! Chloe Enya C. arrived a little over a week ago! She was around 2 1/2 weeks early but came totally healthy and completely adorable!!
I LOVE this picture that Annie posted on Facebook! She's got a little smirk! She is doing so great and I just can't wait to babysit and cuddle with her!

Alta Black vs Bingham White

This past Saturday, as with most of the others, Grandma and Grandpa Gilbert, Kathy and Tom have come along to see the games! I am not always the greatest about remembering to get pictures of them too! But today I grabbed a shot of some of them :)
This game was also a crossover game and, I believe, our last one of those. Our team is constantly switching things up. So this week Will asked to play nose guard which is one of his favorite positions to play.
It's funny to see him out there, he puts on this tough persona and when a big play is made he's the first one making noise! And on occasion he will growl or grunt at the opposing team. It's pretty funny!
He was also put on the goal line offense. Basically the boys on the line just steam roll over the opposing team to make a hole for a runner to jump through (pictured above). The ball was given to #21 and, thanks to the hole made, ran it right through for the extra point.
But Will's favorite is definitely defense! He loves it and you can tell! He likes offense too, but he's just not as passionate with it.

He's really getting better at jumping right through the line- this guy was trying to keep him there! It was a great game and a fantastic win! A shutout! We will meet up with another Bingham team in a few weeks, so hopefully it will turn out the same way!
All of the cheerleaders made it to this game! It was so wonderful to see a large group! A lot of our girls cheer for 2 teams, so some of them are unable to make it to all our games.
I love it when there's a lot of them because they are that much LOUDER! It's awesome!
This is the cheerleaders putting on their tough Alta football faces! Don't you love this picture!
Once again it was a super fun Saturday! A great win and a whole lot of fun!!

Alta High vs Jordan JV/Varsity

This was a big week for Alta football! I was talking with Carter last night and he said, "It doesn't seem to matter who we play because everyone is out for us." I have to say I agree!
Alta is such a great program with talented players so we always have tough teams! And this year is no different! We started out the year being ranked 4th for the 5A schools and at the start of this week had moved to 2nd, behind whom you ask, Jordan! And that's who we were going to be playing!

The boys had a lot of coaches chats this week. Alta had won over Jordan for 7 years in a row and they didn't want that streak to end! Especially since the win could put us in 1st place! The JV game was a good one! The boys came out strong and played an amazing game and came out with the win! In these three photos you can see Carter running the trap- he pulls right from the line, runs and then smacks this guy! LOVE IT!!

In the days right before the Varsity game the head coaches got wind that the Jordan team was going to do a blackout game. That means they were going to wear all black and the crowd then follows and wears all black as well. They wanted to make a statement too, so they dug into their equipment room and got white pants for all our guys and they did a white out and our crowd followed suit! This is a major rivalry game since BOTH these teams are in the same city! Our team came out VERY strong in the first quarter and was the first to put numbers on the scoreboard. We hung in there to the 3rd quarter and kept fighting to try for the win but unfortunately we lost :( It was our first loss and a hard one!
I'm just proud of our team and the way they conduct themselves. It's not how you act when you win that's important, it's how you act when you lose. And our guys were a class act! I am proud of them and I know this loss is only going to strengthen them as a team!

Student Council Update

Just wanted to do a quick update to let you all know how the student council election for Brianne went. Unfortunately she was not elected for her class. She was disappointed for sure, but I highly doubt she will give up on the idea of student government. She's already talking about doing the PTSA next year in middle school like her brother Will did. I did find it funny that she said the girl who did get elected cried during her speech and according to her it was a ploy to get more votes! I guess if it was it worked! Too funny!

A wonderful surprise

On Friday shortly before I left the house for the high school I grabbed my phone and noticed that I had received a couple of emails. So I quickly checked to see what they were. One was just junk that I quickly deleted but the other I immediately recognized was the name of one of Will's teachers and the subject line was Will. My immediate thought was Oh CRAP! (I know but that's totally true) I reluctantly opened it to find the following message:

Mr. and Mrs. Crismon,

I am Will's Language Arts and Theatre teacher.  I don't know if I already have, but I have been meaning to send you an email. I just wanted to write a quick note letting you know how great of a student Will is in both of my classes. He is always on task, working hard, and never has to be reminded of the rules. In fact, he helps others stay on task also. I wanted to commend you for your job in raising such a polite student. Your hard work does not go unnoticed. Tell him to keep up the good work!

Thank you!

Ms. Falk

Ummmm seriously!!! I could not have received a more fantastic email!!! I immediately responded to her to tell HER thank you for letting us know. Maybe that's why I assumed so quickly it was a BAD email because we NEVER get any news usually unless it's BAD news! At any rate I am just a super proud Momma! Way to go Will!

Student Council???

Brianne came home this week and said she wanted to go out for student council! I thought that was an awesome idea! I told her to call her friend Halle in Eagle Mountain because I knew she had been working on the same thing (since her Mom and I had just talked) so she did! Halle and her sister Mallory told Brianne this idea and we LOVED it!! We made this poster together last night and I helped her out by writing her speech.
It was a short poem that said:
I'm your friend and classmate too,
You know that I'll be there for you!

No matter what the task I get,
You know I can accomplish it!

Whether it's before or after school,
I can manage it... it's cool!

Assemblies I can scream and cheer,
And all of ______ will know Mrs. Wilson's class is here!

So I only have one thing I "mustache",
Will you vote for me for our class??

At the end of her speech when she says mustache she holds up the mustache to her face! Cute right!! I hope she wins!! Wish her luck!!!!

Homecoming question and answer

So this year Carter came up with his own idea for asking his friend to Homecoming. He told me one afternoon that he needed me to go and buy a bucket, tennis balls to fill it and a poster board. Obviously I asked "for WHAT?" to which he replied, "to ask Maddy to Homecoming". HUH?
He explained how he was going to use the items and then I was excited! Pretty cute and clever! She had to spell out his name in the tennis balls to figure out "who" it was. I helped him out since he had football practice after school, but once he got home and showered, he was off with his fellow football buddies to do their asking!
They all piled in my big truck and Carter drove and they went around to all their girl's houses. I would have LOVED to have been a fly on the wall during this whole thing! These boys are hilarious!

He waited about a week until coming home after a late practice and finding a movie bucket of popcorn, some candy and a home made DVD that said "watch me" on the cover. It was a home made techno song with a simple video that repeated the words "homecoming" and "yes"! It was clever and Carter loved it! He is so excited and they've got quite a big group going! Should be fun!!
