Halloween at Sunrise Elementary!!

Here is Brianne's class!! I went to the school to help with her 1st grade class Halloween party! I was in charge of giving all the kids a treat and reading them a book. It was fun! It's always fun to see their friends and how they dress up. Brianne is looking really cute in her pirate costume- but tomorrow she will look scary cuz I am going to paint her face! We'll take pictures (of course) so you'll see that soon! I couldn't show up without some sort of costume so I came as a tiger! :)


Here is Will is his classroom getting ready for his class party. He is Batman, and looking very buff- don't ya think? He is very exited for the trick or treating tomorrow!! So watch out for Batman at your door it may be Will!! :)

Alta football....... on to the playoffs we go!!

Well Will's team went up against their toughest team yet! They went up against Hunter on Saturday and they knew it was going to be really hard going into it. Their team and Hunter were tied for 1st place in their division, it was going to be a hard game.....








It was all smiles at first, but once we got to the end of the half- most of their smiles were gone. We went into the half scoreless and Hunter had scored twice. It wasn't lookin' too good.....










Here is the team after their "talkin' to" at the half. They seemed ready to go and to try and get into that end zone!! Will is behind #49 in this photo.....










Here is Will getting ready to get somebody! he played quite a bit and they all tried their best to get into that end zone but unfortunately it never happened. They lost 26 to 0. it was a tough loss, but they had an awesome season 8 and 1 and were going into the playoffs next week!! They will play West next Saturday in their first playoff game!! GO ALTA WHITE!!







Carter's team had the opposite day! They played Murray and were dominant the entire game! They won 51 to 0!! Unfortunately I did not get any photos because Will and Carter's games were at the exact same time, but I know they did awesome!! Carter's team were undefeated all season and go into the playoffs in first place! They play Riverton next Saturday in their first playoff game!! GO ALTA BLACK!!!! :)

Alta white vs Hunter

Here is a video of Will's team doing their "who dey say" chant before the start of their BIG game! This is something they do before each game to get them all exited and ready to go get'em! Their head coach is the one leading the chant! What they are saying is "Who dey say they beat them hawks?"- and the kids say "Who dey, who dey say what?" which they do a couple of times and then end with a "Alta!!"

OUCH?!!!

So here's our cute Brianne with a big OUCH on her arm! We took her down to her pediatrician last week to get a flu shot, and the next day her arm looked like THIS!! It was swollen and hot to the touch and believe it or not it got WORSE the next day!! It covered her arm clear to the top of her shoulder! But thankfully it is much better now! But we thought it would be fun to share our "ouchie" with all of you!

My Bubba..... the 7th grader now

So most of you know that Carter has had some struggles with moving into 7th grade, but these past few weeks he has really kicked it in the butt and has been trying very hard. All through these past weeks I kept telling him he was soooooo smart and that he just needed to apply himself. Well last night he finished an English assignment that knocked my socks off! I read it to Chan and he was very impressed too- so I thought I would share his very creative paper with all of you! Hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Nice job Carter- keep up the great work!! :)

This may increase study habits. They did not get kidnapped
by space aliens. Now you get the test back and what do you know you get an F! Now what do you do? Change your name to Julio Sanchez and move to Mexico? NO! Read this here guide and you’ll get an A not an F. With only 11 easy steps this isn’t any mission impossible.

Next, the cool thing to do is to have a study plan.
A study plan is your homework and when it is due. It’s not only for that it is also for extracurricular activities like football and watching my movies.
It’s vital to have a study plan it will help you a ton. The things we should do are … step1- find a quiet place. Step2- maybe get a snack. Step3- get notes, paper and the homework. Step4- use the study plan to study.

The next thing you totally need to know is the S.Q 3 R.
study method, and no it isn’t some weird robot from a game. It is a study plan. S.Q.3R. each letter stands for something. Study, question, Read, Record, Review.

Let’s review, shall we…
First study
Read the title read the text and look at the pretty pictures
Next question
Ask questions about what you just read.
Then read
Read all or as much text as you can.
Record it
Write down all or the important stuff of what you just read.
Review
Then review what you wrote.

Now let’s talk about note taking and memorization.
Note taking is just like texting use short little bits.
Memorizing is what note taking is for.
Now you must listen but we’ll talk about that later.
Now when you listen don’t write down everything.
Just write down the most important stuff.

After you have taken your notes
When you get home look over them and memorize them.
Once you have memorized them know them.

After that you are ready to get your stuff done.
But don’t be afraid to look back to help you.
Take your time and use your notes
That’s what their there for please use them.

Do you remember when I said that I would talk about
Listening? Well let’s talk about it. Well you must listen to
Your teacher. You must listen it is really important to.
You can’t take notes if you don’t listen am I right?
Make sure to listen okay all right.

Now this is really important now use your new listening skills.
These are my study do’s and do not’s.
First I will tell you my do’s

Do get your work done at a descent hour
Do listen to your teacher and your study plan.
And finally do have a fun time doing it.
And now my do not’s.
Do not slack off on your homework
Do not ignore your teacher
And finally do not have a boring time in school and hate it.

And finally make sure you have as much fun as possible.
Use all the steps I gave you and use your study plan the most
Or just a lot. Now was that so hard I told you it
Wasn’t going to be any mission impossible.

That's right it's time for the annual drive to the pumpkin patch!! You can't have fall without going somewhere to find a pumpkin! Luckily this year a farm right down the road had some good ones to choose from- here is Carter out on a search for the perfect one!!
At some of these places there's those fun wooden painted things that you can put your face in and take a photo- and this is Brianne and will demonstrating how they work! I thought this one was pretty funny! And yes- the majority of the time I think they have "gone batty!!"
AAAAHHH success! They each found the perfect pumpkin! It took some searching but they did it! I found one for me too! Now the fun part will be the day before Halloween when we get to carve them up! but for now they are just a pretty decoration for the porch! Way to go kids!

Alta Black vs Bingham

Well this weeks game was the "biggie" and we knew it going into it. Carter's team went up against Bingham, our biggest rival!! They were both tied for 1st place in their division and winning this game meant winning 1st place and securing a place in the championship! So needless to say Carter was very exited to be chosen as one of the captains for the game. This picture is of him and the other captains doing the coin toss. And yes Carter is only wearing one glove- he gives the other to his friend Ammon Fassu to use. He doesn't like having a glove on his hand he snaps with. And it was super cold too!!
Here they are face to face with Bingham!! Carter is in the center in this shot- just waiting to pounce! It was an all out war and our guys took some serious hits and we were struggling in that first half. We went into the half down 6-0, but thankfully the coaches let them have it during the half and they came out fighting again in the second half!
Here's the team doing their usual 4th quarter chant, but this time it meant even more because it was tight!! They both fought hard and we ended up with 1 minute left in the quarter tied 14 to 14 and we had to bring it!! We didn't get it into the end zone before the game was over so it went into overtime..........sudden death!! After another coin toss we got the ball first and got it into the end zone for our touchdown and extra point, so it was a matter of holding them from getting in..............
Well they DID IT!!!!!!!!! This is the congratulatory gathering after the game. That is Chan shaking the hand of another coach, Hank Hathaway, and it was an emotional win!! I was crying my eyes out!! I was so proud of those guys and of carter who was put into defense that very last play where they held Bingham at the one yard line for the win!! WOW!!!!
ALL the coaches were very proud of the boys, but they all said they were sure we would see that team again, so it's back to practice with two regular season games left! Let's go Alta Black!!!!! But way to go on your win- it was AWESOME!!!

Alta White vs South Summit!

Well it was a fun day to go to a game I tell ya!! It was about 30 degrees on Saturday morning when I took Will over to his game at 8:30 in the morning!!! Yah- it was dang cold! I put on three layers of clothes and had a nice big thermos of hot chocolate!!! We also drug out our portable propane heater to help keep the team warm! But it looks like it did not effect them much because they played awesome!! But in all my layering I forgot my camera so I don't have any shots of his game :(, but it was a good one! Another shutout by Will's team and he also got another sack!!! Way to go Will!! Right now his team is tied for 1st place and they will play THAT team a week from Saturday- it will be a great game!! His coach is trying his best to get them to the championship, and if they keep playing like they are they have a great chance!! Go Alta White!!!

Getting ready for game time!!

We woke up Saturday morning and were flipping through the channels and found the movie "We are Marshall" which is one of our favorite football movies. So we decided to leave it on in our room and watch it and told the boys it was on as well so they could watch it too to get them amped up for their game!! This movie is awesome!!








Then few minutes later it was time for the annual game time ritual! Chan sits at the desk and operates the i-tunes and the boys dance and get themselves all riled up! I love the songs they listen to- anything from "Back in Black" by ACDC to "please don't stop the music" by Rihanna.









That's right Carter your all number one in my book!! Just keep on dancing and get ready for the big game!!! :)

Alta white vs Skyline

Here is one of the team captains for the game- yip that's right Will was a captain!! he was VERY exited!! He got to be a part of the coin toss for the start of the game as well as after the half. The weather was very wet and a bit cold as well, so he added the long sleeve red shirt to help keep him warm!







Here is Will ready to jump on that line and get somebody!! The defense was amazing in this game- they didn't allow for ONE score! That's right- another shutout by Will's team! Amazing!! Their offensive line is amazing too considering their age. They have some pretty difficult plays and manage to execute them pretty darn well- way to go Alta white!!





Here is the team coming back on the field from the half. I love the tunnel a family of the team made- I think they are just hula hoops with tape around them, but it's really clever! Also, the same family had a banner made that they can tear through (it has velcro in the center) at each game!! Parents are so fun! I love how people get into it- it is soooo great!! Way to go Alta white for your win!! I believe the score ended up being about 38 to 0.

Alta Black vs Riverton

Unfortunately I was only at carter's game for the last two quarters (since I was at Will's away game) but the two I saw were VERY intense!!! This was a HUGE game- this Riverton team took the championship last year, so they were ready to take us down! But we didn't give up! It was definately a fight to the end!!








I LOVE to see Chan standing on the sidelines next to Carter- it's one of my most favorite things! And I know it means a lot to Carter too! And even though he would never say this of himself Chan is a very good coach!! He loves those kids!!










This is a cool shot of the O-Line! Carter is in there somewhere!! They had some struggles in this game with snaps and the ball being a bit slick- but they held their own!












Here is Carter at the end of the game huddle. I am sure they were glad it was over and that they managed to fight to a win. The score was only 7 to 2, but hey we will take it!! The next game is Bingham- their BIGGEST game of the season!! So they are off to practice hard this week!!

Our funny Brianne...

Okay so the other day I was sitting with Will and Brianne in our family room and we had just barely gotten home from running somewhere and I was trying to help them with homework or something- I really can't remember that part- but in the middle of it the phone rang. And thankfully caller ID came up and I noticed it said toll free number along with an 1800 number attached. So needless to say I just hit end on my phone so I wouldn't have to hear it keep ringing because I had no intentions of answering it right then, and even said under my breath ah it's just a toll free number. Well Will seemed a bit confused as to why I didn't answer and asked me "Why didn't you answer it Mom" which I didn't even have to reply because our funny Brianne jumped right in and said "because all they want is money"!!! I about died laughing! I guess she has heard me complain one too many times about people who do that! I thought it was hilarious! You go Brianne!! But to top it all off it was a political message from someone running for mayor which we all had to hear over the answering machine- but Will made it funny by trying to mouth the words! Kids are too much!!


This is a picture of Brianne and her doll Annabelle. This doll can drink actual water and cry actual tears and it coos and cries and all kinds of funny things. She has had this doll for at least a couple of years, but only plays with it every now and then, but when she does it always makes me laugh! She will "make" the baby cry by hitting it's chest and then lul it down with a bottle, or throw it in the air to see if it will cry and all kinds of funny things! But thankfully with REAL babies she is much more careful and sweet- but I have to say her doll play is freakin hilarious!!

My Will...

Okay, so I have a great Will story- as I always seem to do! On Friday night him and his brother and sister got a bit of a tongue lashing from me about NOT keeping their rooms clean. Needless to say I was pretty upset- mainly because I found ALL the clothes I had washed earlier in the week and folded and asked him to put away- STILL folded and on his bottom bunk- NOT put away. So I got pretty upset at them and told them to go to bed and fix it tomorrow. So at about 7:30 Saturday morning I hear a familiar voice enter my bedroom with a "good Morning Mom" and I look up to see my Will holding breakfast for ME with the note attached. How can you stay mad at such a sweet kid!! Dang it!! I sat right up and gobbled down most of my yummy breakfast- thanks Will- and I didn't get a picture of it, but he did bring up some O.J. too! It was very sweet! But he still had to work on the room- which he did pretty much the whole weekend until he finally finished Sunday afternoon. Hopefully now he can manage to keep it clean or it looks like I may get another breakfast?








Here is another fun Will story.... He REALLY loves Ironman! In fact he was begging me all weekend to go to redbox and rent it even though he has already seen it! I am sure within a short while we will own it! Anyway, he came up this morning VERY proud of himself because he had made his own "power source" just like Ironman! And I have to admit it looked pretty darn good! As for the pose I am not quite sure what the theory was there, but hey it looks cool yeah?
