November 11, 2016- State Playoff vs Springville

To say we were excited for this game is an understatement!! Holy cow!! we are estatic to be going up to the University of Utah to play in the State playoffs!!!

Here's how this years bracket turned out! And once again we're going up against Springville, who took us out before. They are a very good team again, but this year we are too! We're hoping for a very different outcome!

Brianne and her friends jumped on the Alta spirit bus along with LOTS of other kiddos to come up to the U and cheer on their team! I can only imagine how rowdy that bus was!!

A few hours before the game I got this text from Will with his gear in the locker room up at the U. I asled how the team was doing and if they were ready. He replied they were nervous but VERY excited to be there and that they were ready to play! Game on....

It was a gorgeous day! We couldn't have asked for better weather! There has been many a playoff game in the snow, so we were feeling very blessed! There was a good crowd of people and we got some perfect seats! We were ready to go!

How wonderful it was to see that Alta "A" up there on the big screen!!! YEEESSS!!

Out they came and it was game time, let's gooooooo boys!!

This game was rough from the get go. I'm not sure what it was, the arena, the nerves, I don't know but our guys were not playing like we know they can. Springville was a power house and they were bringing their A game (no pun intended) and we were not.

We could not seem to stop their run game. They were blasting it up the middle.

We also were not playing offense well. Our passes were being dropped, which really hadn't happened much all season! Again... nerves maybe?

They changed up a few things after the first half, thank heavens! Not sure what happened in there but after the half they came alive. They were finally making moves on offense!

But unfortunately the Springville offense was still going too. We were having a tough time defensively with them. we couldn't stop them.

The second half was at least a better game! We showed up, but just a little too late to make up the difference.

In the 4th quarter I swear I could see it on all our players faces that it was over. They didn't stop fighting, but you could see they knew.

For the crowd, they gave up even sooner than that. Brianne was furious! She was cheering for her team until the very end and she was mad that not everyone was doing the same. This picture just captures it! She is intensely watching while everyone else was just "there". She knew what this meant to her brother.

The final score was 42-14 for Springville. We went down to the field to wait to see Will. Player after player went by before we FINALLY saw him.

This hug said it all. Brother consoling brother. He knows exactly what that loss feels like. He's been there too, especially as a senior, knowing that was it.

Brianne's hug was precious too. She was telling him how proud she was of him and their team. They made it farther than any team had in YEARS. For me, the best part of this day was Coach Riley. I made my way to him to thank him for all he had done for this team. He spend the next couple minutes telling me how incredible Will was. How he knew he wasn't the best player out there but that he had more heart than anyone and he wished he could have given him more play time because he deserved it for how hard he worked on and off the field. He was crying and telling me how much he loved my boy. That is worth more to me than any trophy they could hoist in the air. That my boy was someone he would remember and value for WHO HE WAS. I will never forget that. I am so grateful for this team, it's coaches and all that he learned out there on that field! Alta Hawk for life!! :)
